The Wartenberg wheel is a small instrument for sensing the sensibility according to the model designed by Robert Wartenberg. It consists of a handle with handle and a rotating wheel with spikes. In diagnostic application, the Wartenberg wheel is slowly rolled over the affected skin areas and the patient’s findings are documented. In this way, pressure and pain sensations can be assessed quantitatively. The spines on the Wartenberg wheel are sufficiently sharp for point-shaped stimulation but not sharp enough for penetration of the skin.

Het Wartenberg-wieltje is een klein instrument voor onderzoek van de sensibiliteit conform het door Robert Wartenberg ontworpen model. Het bestaat uit een steel met handvat en een roterend wieltje dat voorzien is van stekels. Bij diagnostische toepassing wordt het Wartenberg-wieltje langzaam over de betreffende huidgebieden gerold en worden de bevindingen van de patiënt gedocumenteerd. Op deze manier kunnen druk- en pijnsensaties kwantitatief worden beoordeeld. De stekels op het Wartenberg-wieltje zijn voldoende scherp voor puntvormige stimulatie maar niet scherp genoeg voor penetratie van de huid.
